The oldest major is due to get underway on Thursday 14th July at Royal St. Georges in Kent.

If you're a regular reader you'll know here at 121Golf we do like to have a little flutter on the Majors.
So below is 121Golf’s leading contenders for this year.

Europeans:

Rory Mcilroy:

Goes without saying, the man who tore up the US Open is a hot favourite and although media attention will be on him, he will be well prepared for this test. Remember his opening round at St. Andrews last year?

Luke Donald:

The current world number 1 is having the season of his life. We didn't fancy him for the US open due to fatigue but after his Scottish Open win he looks refreshed and will be looking to add a major to his collection on titles.

Lee Westwood:

I think this could be Lee's opportunity to finally get over the line and win that elusive 1st Major. With the pressure and focus on Luke and Rory, Westy could just sneak up and take the spoils for himself.

Outside bets:

GMac:

Not that you can really call G-Mac an outsider, his odds will be high due to lack of wins but G-Mac would be no surprise winner come Sunday.

Darren Clarke:

And if you're really feeling in a gambling mood, then our pick is Daren Clarke.
Darren has already won this year and thrives on links courses. If the wind and rain gets up Darren could well be in contention come Sunday.

Rest of the World:

K J Choi:

KJ is our top pick if a European doesn't win, a great record in the Open and is in good form.

Steve Stricker:

Our top pick if you want to back a Yank. Won the John Deere last week so is in great form.

Matt Kuchar:

Has prepared well by playing in last weeks Scottish Open. Played well and is a steady solid player. Last years leading money winner on the USPGA tour.

Adam Scott:
No t to be ignored, played well at the Masters and is putting well with the broom handle putter.

And finally...
121Golf would like to wish Tom Shadbolt good luck for his Open debut. Tom is cousin to Joe one of our PGA Assistants so we have a personal interest here at 121 Towers.

Good luck to you all if you’re having a flutter if not enjoy the golf,. We know we will.
